Role of the Community Support Officer

Brunswick Valley Landcare is contracted to provide the services of the Byron/Brunswick Community Support Officer on behalf of the Northern Rivers Catchment Management Authority, the body with overall responsibility for natural resource management in the region.

Funding comes from the Australian Government’s Caring for our Country program and State Government Investment.

The CSO is responsible for delivering the community targets of the Northern Rivers Catchment Action Plan (CAP) within the Byron Shire. Wendy Gibney

The CSO helps the community to better understand and manage our natural environment. There are a number of things the CSO does to achieve this including networking with Landcarers, landholders and natural resource managers (such as government departments), and distributing information about best practice, new funding opportunities, projects and workshops. The CSO can give appropriate contacts for funding or other help.

The community support role is a three-way partnership between BVL, the NRCMA and Byron Shire Council, which provides office accommodation and administrative support.
