Photos from around the Valley

Local photographer and bird enthusiast Deb Pearse is a regular contributor to this web site. These are her most recent photos.

She says: Just sending you some new pics of our beautiful birds. Although it's very cold, it's also often very clear and there are a lot of hawks and kites about and some sea eagles (but they're very hard to photograph). I've seen Black-shouldered Kites, Osprey, Brahminy Kites, Kestrels and had a Collared Sparrowhawk in my backyard, which was really amazing even though it was after the doves.

One of my favourite places to be at the moment is at Belongil. It's a little protected there and there are some amazing birds hanging out there, lots of Sacred Kingfishers, Rainbow BeeEaters, Striated Pardalotes and even a Nankeen Night-heron (I think I've identified it correctly as it's quite different to the Striated Bittern that I've seen there, but please someone correct me if I'm wrong - they can be hard to identify sometimes).

I've never even seen the pardalotes before but they were in a tree on the cliff edge at Belongil darting around and then ducking into tunnels in the cliff face.
It's a beautiful world that we have here!
